This is an amazing slow cooker recipe that has a nice hearty flavor that is a little sweet but also savory I think you going to like this crockpot Russian chicken

Has some nice cranberry floating around

The reason you will like Russian chicken 

Budget-friendly -only use a few simple ingredients 2 which you may already have in your pantry y

Simple to make – just add everything together and let it cook

It is full of amazing has a rich flavor from the cranberry and also gets some great flavor from the dressing and the soup 

It gore great with rice or mashed potatoes 

Chicken has been added to the crock pot it is still frozen you can still see the ice on thr out side the onion soup has been added on top of the chiicken so you can see the dry mix

Ingredients that you will need

Chicken – my wife likes to get bags of frozen chicken. We used to do a 5-pound bag but they don’t make those and more so it is either a 3-pound bag or two of the boneless skinless chicken thoughts or with the bone it is up to you I think it has a little bit better flavor with bone in but it is easier to eat without the bone and tends to make the kids happy

Onion soup. – we use a dry onion soup packet so you don’t need much else in the way of seasoning

Cranberry sauce you can use just cranberry sauce. But we like to use the full cranberry it tends to add additional flavor and it is just nice to have some cranberries even if we can’t find the white We will add some dried cranberry if need

Seasoning- Sometimes we will add a little salt or pepper but that is just to taste

All the chicken that is sitting down in the fluid has a nice red color to it but the part sticking out are pretty white. There is a good amount of fluid in the open now was the ice costing bad melted

How to make Russian chicken 

Added all of the ingredients to the slow cooker and mix

Cook on high for 4 hours on low or 6- 8 hours

Serve with rice or mashed potatoes and enjoy

Versions

Try using Catalina dressing it has a little bit more of a fruity flavor to it

Try making it a little spicy by adding some jalapeños 

All of the chicken is all coated now as we fluilf then I er if need that way the chicken is all covered in the flavor. It all had a nice rich dark color now and you can see some cranberrys

storing and reheating

you can store in the fridge for about 3 days and reheat in the microwave

if you freeze it is best to let it thaw but you can save for up to three months.

FAQ

So I have to use frozen chicken 

No, you don’t have to use frozen just in the past it has been cheaper and it is easier to pull out and make 

Do I have to wear Russian dressing?

No, you also can use Catalina dressing they are pretty similar other than Catalina is a little more fruity

Can I make this on the stovetop?

Yeah you can make this on the stove this is how we started making it but now I prefer to make it in the crockpot and then come home to it

Why would I want to use bone?

Depending on how the chicken was processed we have had it where little bones were left and then fell apart and we kept finding them though our not a very pleasant experience

Why wouldn’t I want to have the skin on?

As the fat and skin Cooke thru would realize a lot of fat and with how we cook it the skin doesn’t get the nice crispy that it does when grilling or pan frying

Ingredients
  

  • 3 pounds of skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 14 oz can of whole cranberry sauce
  • 1 packet of dry onion soup

Equipment

  • crockpot

Method
 

  1. Put the chicken in the crock pot
  2. Added cranberry sauce and seasoning snf mix with chicken
  3. Cover and Cooke 4 hours on High or low for 6-8 hours.
  4. Serve and and enjoy

Notes

You can easy double up this recipe by just adding a second bag of chicken if you do so you will just mix so that they all get coated or you can do what we do some time. And make one batch take out the chicken and then added the second bag in to the sauce
