Mostly uses ingredients you probably already have.
one of the thing that I like about this recipe as well is that with the potatoes in the bottom the ribs are not just sitting in the fat at the bottom so they are not as oily.
Ingrates description
- Rack of ribs: you can use any ribs that you like we tend to us baby back ribs or spareribs I dont know too much about the difference but normally it is whichever is cheap normally spare but sometimes you get lucky and baby back ribs are cheaper i think they are better trimmed. if you would like to see more about check out this article “A Guide to the Different Types of Ribs
- BBQ sauce: pretty music any BBQ sauce will work we like to use Sweet honey or Sweet Baby Rays to help add flavor and to help keep the meat juice tender
- garlic powder: added garlic flavor you could use cloves but then it does not work as well as the powder you could add some to the so the potatoes get more taste from it
- onion powder: helps to bring out a nice inion flavor we used to use white onion but they tend to get overcooked and not be as good so we switched to just using the powder
- Potatoes: To help make this a complete meal we tend to use medium russet potatoes or Yukon gold. I have also had friends let us know that they have used sweet potatoes to good effect
- red pepper: helps to bring out a little heat and adds flavor
How to make
- Preparation: the first thing that I like to do is make sure that we have everything and then pull the ribs out and pull off the membrane if needed the underside of the ribs as that is not always pleasant to eat. Then I like to cut the ribs in half. So that I can get sauce and seasoning all around and not fill it like I'm knocking it off later.
- Dry rub: go ahead and add the Garlic powder and onion powder. So people like to mix all the dry dry rub together but this way I think I get it a little more even as I dont tend to mix it enough for adding when i combine
- Sauce: I like to add the potatoes to the slow cooker and then like to lay the first layer of meat on top of the potatoes add the sauce about ¾ of a cup on each or os leaving about ¼ cup for after it is cooked. I always like to have a little extra added in the end
- Cooking: put the lid on and let cook for 5 hours on high and 7-8 on low
- Optional
- Broil: pull the ribs output on a baking sheet and put them under the broiler for about 5-10 minutes with a little extra BBQ sauce you dont have to due this I think it brings out a lot of extra flavor
