Looking for an amazing combination? It doesn't get much better than a juicy hamburger patty covered with delicious caramelized onions and melted cheese. All sadwiched together between warm toasted bread, your family is going to love these patty melts.

The reason I think that you will enjoy these so much is the taste of gooey cheese melt with the sweet caramelized onion is a match made in heaven. It is the perfect savory meal with the seasoned beef, the melty cheese and the sweetness of the onion

Bread siting in a skillet with cheese heating up on iteith cooked hamburger and cooked onions on top before next price of bread is added

    Ingredients

Ground beef - most of the time you should use an 80/20 combination of meat and fat

Bread - most of the recipes that we see have you use rye bread as it is a hearty bread that holds up well but in my family we dont normally have different types of bread so we just use 100% whole wheat.

Onion - we like to use a yellow onion

Mayonnaise - this is added to both sides of the bread to help give it a nice flavor on the inside and to help give the bread a nice golden color. Trust me sounds crazy but just try it. It is easier to spread on the bread when cooking and it's more predictable because you can easily get an even coating all over.

Cheese - we normally use cheddar cheese  but another option that I like to use is pepper jack

Two patty siting in a pan finishing cooking onions cooking in the open part of the pan. Using the grease from the burgers took them

    • 2 ¼ pound hamburger patty
    • 1 small yellow onion
    • 4 slices of bread
    • 3 tablespoon mayonnaise
    • 2 Slices of cheese

    Equipment

    • skillet
    • Spachlia
    • Knife

    Method

    1. Heat up a pan over mild high heat
    2. Once that pan is heated up add the hamburger patties and let them start to cook
    3. Cut the onion in half and the pill of the outside of the onion
    4. Then slice up the onion
    5. You probably will want to flip the patties so that they dont burn but you will want to check
    6. Turn down heat down to medium heat.
I like to cook the onion in the fat from the burger, so I will try and get the fat where I can get some oil to put the onions in
    7. Let the onions cook and mix them occasionally
    8. Once that hamburger is done then make sure to take it off
    9. Right around now start to get the bread ready if you let it sit too long and gets wet
    10. Onion should be almost done around now and you can lay done the bread and then some cheese and a patty and then some onions and the other piece of bread.
    11. Leave for about a minute then check to see if it is golden brown on the bread if you start to smell it burning then check it sooner and then flip it to the other side once the other side is golden brown
    12. Pill it off and get ready to enjoy
