Tonight we used a pound of hamburger cooked into crumbles. But typically we eat it without because we don't usually buy a lot of hamburger.
Start by covering the bottom of your pan with spaghetti sauce. (With my big lasagna pan it usually ends up being about a 1/2 of a can of spaghetti sauce.) Put the uncooked Lasagna noodles down so that they cover the bottom of the Pan. (Yes I said uncooked. Scary I know, but it seriously turns out perfect! Pour the rest of the can on top of it. It should completely cover the noodles.
Next is mozzarella cheese.
Sprinkle it around on top evenly. I usually use a lot and rarely measure it. But I would estimate at least 2 cups loosely packed shredded cheese. Maybe 4 cups? I like a lot of cheese.
Put another layer of noodles and pour more spaghetti sauce on top to completely cover them. Add the container of cottage cheese. (I used the whole container and spread it around.) This is also where I would add garlic salt and other spices if you want them. This is also where to add the hamburger if you want it.
Put more noodles on top of that and pour the remainder of the spaghetti sauce on top so it's basically covered in sauce. Typically I use all 3 cans. It does seem kind of soupy, but I don't cook my Lasagna noodles before I put them in the pan. So it soaks up the excess liquid.
Cover it with aluminum foil and cook it in the oven for about an hour at 350-375 degrees Faranheit.
Take the aluminum foil off and check the noodles. They should all be cooked. They've soaked up most of that extra liquid. If not put the aluminum foil back over and cook longer. I would check it every 15-20 min. cover the top mozzarella. Put it back in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. I just watch it till it's golden like little bubbles of golden brown cheese and then I set it on the counter to rest 15-30 minutes.
It's delicious!
